Technology
Uncomfortable with computers? Lost on the Internet?
Don't worry. We offer Computer Boot Camp just prior to the start of the first Residential Period (RP) to help you acquire or reinforce your basic computer skills. PEMBA's first RP is filled with learning opportunities covering each of the necessary technical skills. Simultaneously, your laptop computer will be set up and tested by the Physician Executive MBA's technical team. You will finish RP1 confident in your command of the Internet and computing.
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE
Recognizing physicians' unique scheduling demands UT's PEMBA program rewrites the traditional delivery model for executive degree programs. Physician Executive MBA's one-year program delivered via four separate one-week long RPs in Knoxville Tennessee with the remaining coursework between RPs delivered by the Internet directly to your laptop computer.
Weekly assignments between RPs are made through the Internet's World Wide Web. We call it "Webworks". Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Webworks allows you to study when and where you wish with access to:
* Hyperlinked multimedia pages
* Topical discussion groups
* Downloadable spreadsheets and word processing documents
* Browser-integrated email allowing hyperlinks and attachments within your message to instructors and class members alike.
LEARN AT HOME OR OFFICE
Saturday morning Internet Cyberclasses by audio and shared computer screens put you on-line with your faculty and classmates nationwide offering convenience unmatched in any other degree program. And the great benefit to this learning experience is that you are still near your home and business.
PEMBA'S CYBERCLASS IS REAL-TIME INTERNET-BASED INTERACTIVE MEDIA, FEATURING:
- Audio-over-the-internet for phone conference call-like interaction
- Synchronized web browsers for interactive use of World Wide Web as on-line
- Shared electronic whiteboard allowing real time group collaboration
- Synchronized playback of PowerPoint presentations allowing high quality multimedia
- Anonymous on-line pop quizzes allowing instructors to adjust content pacing
- Missed a class? Use PEMBA’s VCR-like audio/video playback of that last Cyberclass over the Internet

About the Laptop
You need a modern, powerful notebook computer to successfully complete the program. You also need one that is trouble-free. We've also learned from 10 years of experience that when our students need technical support, we are best able to provide support of a standardized configuration. We've also learned that those few non-standard machines that have been used during the program account for about 75% of our support problems and time spent. Thus, reducing our ability to provide prompt support for students who invest in the standardized notebook configuration package. For this reason, each student enrolling in the program must purchase and use the program's standardized notebook.
