As part of the program we provide you with self-paced and faculty-led training. This training gets you way ahead of the curve and gives you an advantage. Using the latest IT tools will become second nature to you. Our technical support staff provides assistance when you need help or have a question.

The Physician Executive MBA (PEMBA) program has its own knowledgeable, user-friendly, technical support team. You will not be trapped in a telephone queue nor will you deal with a stranger when you call. The PEMBA Tech Team is there when you need them. We have invested a lot in our Tech Team so technology will be your friend and not a foe.
Computer Boot Camp + Ongoing Skill Building
To jumpstart your IT skill development, we provide you with software training tools before you arrive on campus. Step two is an optional and free "Computer Boot Camp." Computer Boot Camp is offered each January just before classes begin. This two-day intensive learning event is led by experienced faculty members. Graduates of the program often tell us that attending boot camp was more than worth the time spent. By building skills early, they saved a lot of time and where able to focus on learning. Step three is an ongoing commitment to help you build superior IT skills expected of Physician Leaders. Additional training is available over the course of the program. With your robust IT skill set, you will be a contender in the competitive healthcare industry.
How We Make Distance Learning Work For You
Each member of the class uses a standardized and mandated notebook computer and software. The PEMBA tech team custom configures each and every laptop ensuring optimum performance and compatibility. Each member of the class benefits when helping one another, with continuity in hardware capabilities, and software interoperability. IT skills and "how-to" knowledge may be acquired and shared more efficiently. Technical support is simplified.
Our use of the Moodle courseware system ensures that you will have an enjoyable experience when retrieving your assignments or turning them in. Because it is browser-based, Moodle just works - plain and simple. Moodle keeps you organized, informed, and it is easy to use, thus freeing you to focus on gaining insight and being creative. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our courseware system allows you to study when and where you wish with access to:
- Assignment instructions, details, and other resources
- Assignment evaluative feedback and critiques
- Presence awareness to foster even more interaction with classmates, alumni, faculty and staff
- Forums, questionnaires, and WIKIs
- Technical and program administrative support

Recognizing physicians' unique scheduling demands, PEMBA rewrote the traditional delivery model for executive degree programs. The one-year program is delivered via four separate one-week long, on campus Residence Periods (RP's) in Knoxville, Tennessee. In between RP's, remaining coursework is delivered directly to your notebook computer.
Each week you have assignments to complete. Our faculty's assignments are different. The faculty put a lot of thought into each assignment so it makes a meaningful contribution to your learning and has a practical application in the workplace.
Attend Class At Home or On the Go
Saturday morning Internet Cyberclasses by audio and shared computer screens put you online with your faculty and classmates worldwide. PEMBA offers convenience unmatched by any other degree program. In class, you interact with other class members and the faculty primarily by way of discussions, asking or answering questions, listening during a presentation, working in virtual break out groups, or collaborating using some convenient tools like electronic whiteboards, shared applications, or even web safaris. Attending Cyberclass is not limited to one location. You may attend class from where ever your Internet connection is good.
